Title: Pic Mitchell
Material: Limestone
Location: Slane Churchyard
Erected at Slane Churchyard this monument to Pic Mitchell
is in limestone and based on sq.rt. 5. The upper carving is
a stylised CHI-RHO monogram an early Christian symbol pre-dating
the cross; it is also a symbol for fertility. The lower part
of the hedstone has a carved circle containing a bee. It is
simply an aesthetic bee, neither queen nor worker, used as
a device to acknowledge her interest in beekeeping.
